Visage

Founding Year
1586
Origins
Their legacy begins with Samuel Visage and his daughter Josette, whose strange visions first led the settlers away from the failing colony of Bleakwater Island. Josette was said to dream of places she had never seen, guiding the expedition for six months across uncertain waters until they discovered the island now known as Cresline Cay. It was Josette who first discovered the sacred spring and spoke the names of Father Dagon and Mother Hydra to the settlers. When illness struck the expedition, the waters she found cured the sick, though the girl herself fell into a trance for nine days and nights before awakening to declare that the Black Church must be built upon that land. From that moment forward, the Visage family became inseparable from the spiritual life and leadership of the island.
Contribution
They serve as the spiritual and medical caretakers of Cresline Cay. Historically they have held the mantle of The Voice, guiding the island’s people and interpreting the will of the gods beneath the sea. Members of the family have also long served as healers, scholars, and physicians, overseeing both the sacred fountain and the island’s medical practices through the Stillwater Sanitarium. Through their bloodline the Oracle occasionally appears, granting visions that shape the future of the island and its people.
Reputation
Among the islanders, the Visages are regarded with a mixture of reverence and unease. Their closeness to the gods and the strange gifts that run through their bloodline place them in a position few dare question. Some believe the family protects the island from unseen dangers, while others whisper that their knowledge comes from places better left alone. Their guidance has saved the island more than once, yet many quietly wonder how much the Visages truly know about the covenant they helped forge centuries ago.
Traditions
The Visage family maintains many rituals tied to the sacred spring and the Black Church. Members of the family are often involved in anointing ceremonies, healing rites, and the interpretation of dreams believed to carry divine meaning. Visage children are said to be watched carefully for signs of prophetic sight, and rumors persist that certain members are trained from a young age in the hidden knowledge of the island’s covenant. Their home has long served as a place of treatment and quiet counsel, though in recent decades the Crow’s involvement has added new mystery to the family’s already secretive practices.
Present Influence
Once again holds the mantle of leadership on Cresline Cay after more than a century without it. With Spencer Visage serving as the Voice and Madeline Visage revealed to be the island’s newest Oracle, the family has returned to a position of unmatched influence. Their warnings and preparations are widely credited with helping the island survive the fall of the outside world, though many questions remain about just how long the Visages knew the end was coming.
